A culture of kindness
When did you feel you had a direct experience of being in a culture of kindness in Shambhala and what it was that made you experience that kindness?
?The culture of kindness has to do with the silence between us ? willingness to allow silence in communication. The richness of words and the richness of silence between two beings.?
A lack of kindness
When have you felt you were definitely not part of a culture of kindness in Shambhala?and what made you feel this way? What could you do to make sure others do not have that experience?
?Sangha gossip [often lacks kindness]. Side talk about a third person is very painful to third party and an act of cowardice. If I were a leader, I would (perhaps in a statement of ethics) communicate the view that this is not what we?re about. I would create a culture of and encourage direct and authentic communication so people when you have a problem with someone, you talk with them directly.?
Shambhala in society
How are you bringing the Shambhala teachings and practice into your life and work in society?
?I am the Surveillance Director at a casino. I am the only Dharma representative at the casino. I used to just see it as job, but now I am coming to see myself as being there for my team ? my colleagues and subordinates. There is a lot of fear on the
Reservation [land on which native people dwell]. I try to relate to them directly, as human beings. I try to be there, not crushing anyone.?
