New pizza truck wins plaudits for clean energy use

Food trucks in the Big Apple are more accustomed to getting parking tickets than the mayor's praise? except for today. At a press conference this morning, Mayor Michael Bloomberg lauded a new mobile pizza truck business, Neapolitan Express, which uses natural gas and electricity for power?and is partnering with Clean Energy Fuels Corp. T. Boone Pickens, a director of Clean Energy Fuels, was also at the City Hall event. While the city does not have a stake in the new venture, a spokeswoman for the mayor said it reflects the kind of private Energy initiative the city wants to encourage. "This first-of-its-kind truck is one of many alternative vehicle technologies that can help us reduce emissions and improve air quality?something city government has worked to do by using electric and hybrid vehicles and taxis," said Mr. Bloomberg in a statement. Neapolitan Express is based in East Harlem at 232 E. 111th St. and began plying city streets today with one truck. Its headquarters also includes a garage where the company will be converting at least a dozen more trucks to natural gas. Clean Energy Fuels is helping to finance the conversions. "We are not investing in the company itself, but we are providing capital to help them grow and expand the business," said Peter Grace, senior vice president of sales for Clean Energy.
