The Best Cars from California’s Ultimate Week-Long Car Show

One week a year, automotive enthusiasts converge on California's Monterey peninsula for a series of amazing shows. Concorso Italiano is like one day trip to Italy, with Ferrari?red blanketing the golf course on which it is held. The Monterey Motorsports Reunion at Laguna Seca is the spot to see vintage racing and race machines. The Quail will run you $400 for one ticket?it's unbelievably expensive, but attracts some of the most interesting cars of the week. And the Pebble Beach Concours d' Elegance is the premiere event of the weekend. We attended all four, plus the Concours d'Lemons?a lighthearted spoof of Pebble Beach that draws some of the strangest cars we've ever seen. 1955 Mercedes-Benz SLR

It's one of the most famous Mercedes-Benz race cars of all time. Stirling Moss drove this SLR to victory in the 1955 Mille Miglia road race in Italy, beating the Ferraris and posting an average speed close to 100 mph. It's a course record that stands today.
